About

The Windermere Centre is the United Reformed Church’s residential training Centre in the Lake District… and it’s your place! It’s your place because the Centre is here as a resource to equip you and your Church for mission. It’s a conference centre, a retreat centre and a hotel! And there’s the Hannah Fund to provide financial help for anyone who needs it. Whether you’re needing a venue for an event, to take part in the Programme, some spiritual refreshment or just a break in the Lakes, the Windermere Centre is your place!

A Resource Centre for Learning

The Windermere Centre is one of the United Reformed Church’s 4 Resource Centres for Learning.  Its role is to equip the United Reformed Church for its life-in-mission, as well as to be a resource to the wider Christian Church.  It is a place to learn and study, to deepen faith, to be refreshed and revitalised, and to understand and be equipped for effective life and witness in the contemporary world.  The Centre serves the Church through an integrated programme that includes:

  • Bible and theology
  • Worship and preaching
  • Missiology
  • Prayer and spirituality
  • Ecumenism
  • Justice and peace
  • The Church in the digital age
  • Administration
  • Outdoor & Social
  • Art & Craft
  • Vision4Life
  • Radical Welcome

Equipping you for mission

Come and think the unthinkable – plan, dream, study, experiment, learn, discuss. Work out how to become the church God is calling us to be! The Programme is designed to help the Church to develop its life-in-mission and reconnect with contemporary society. It aims to answer the training needs of all sectors of the Church by providing cutting-edge courses led by key speakers and thinkers. Additionally, Churches, groups, committees, networks and individuals can book in to use the Centre for their own needs and programmes (subject to availability).

Equipping you spiritually

Renew, refresh and develop the faith and spirituality that will sustain you for your life-in-mission! The Centre is a place of prayer, reflection, worship and study. All guests are welcome to join us for morning and evening prayer in the Garden Room, which most groups find spacious enough to use as a chapel area. The annual programme includes retreats, Bible studies, theological reading parties and courses on spirituality – all with an eye to developing faith and discipleship and equipping God’s people for mission.
